This is one of the longer stages of the High Trail. From the hut, you first head in a north-westerly direction towards the mountain lake ‘Egesensee’ and then continue to the Niederl. This is the beginning of the descent to the Wilde Grube, where you continue on down the trail to the sign pointing to the ‘Neue Regensburger Hut - Mutterbergersee’. After crossing the stream, the mountain lake ‘Mutterberger See’ is about 10 minutes’ walk if you head up from the trail. This is the ideal place to take a short break on your circular tour because the view is simply fantastic. From here, you continue your hike in the direction of the Schafgrübl (Steinmand’l).
This part of the trail is secured by ropes, after which you cross the Schafgrübl. This is followed by a short descent secured by ropes, after which you climb to the highest point of this stage with a spectacular view, the Grawagrubennieder. Then you head back down again on a path secured by ropes. Finally, you traverse the Hohes Moos until you reach the Neue Regensburger Hut.
