On the sunny side of the Stubai, hikers can discover a cultural as well as scenic diversity and thereby enjoy a generous view onto the valley. Constantly facing the sun, the Sunnenseit’n Weg (sunny side path) goes from the middle station Froneben (1. 362 m) at Schlick 2000 via Vergör to Pfurtschell and on to Kartnall. The total length of the path, which lies between about 1.250 and 1.350 m above sea level and connects the villages of Neustift and Fulpmes, is about 8 km. One of the highlights of the Sunnenseit’n Weg is the suspension bridge with its 110 m spread hanging 50 m over the ground.
Above the suspension bridge, a new platform was built – the scenic nature site “Neustiftblick”. From there you can admire Neustift, the third biggest community of Tyrol, which has the second biggest village church from the 18th century in its center. At Pfurtschell and Kartnall along the path, where today tourism and agriculture secure the existence of the families, a part of the history of the valley is apparent as well. Protected from flooding, mudslides and avalanches, the sunny side of the Stubai has been cultivated since the medieval times. Compared to the shady side (called “Neder” shady side by the locals), it is more suitable for agricultural use.
