Description

HIKING IN MEMORY OF THE MOUNTAIN PIONEER

Characterisation
Round-shaped rock slabs, formed during the last ice-age, form a distinctive feature of the trail. Rustic pastures and the Franz Senn hut offering a inviting place to stop for a bite to eat.

Description
The hike starts with a moderate uphill slope along the Alpeinerbach. Passing the two Oberiss pastures, the best-marked trail (red) leads you to the Franz Senn hut. As the trail suddenly splits, you can use a different route for the ascent and the descent. Taking in the landscape, you will find yourself transported far back to the time of pastor Franz-Senn, co-founder of the German-Austrian Alpine Club. By constructing mountain huts and carving high alpine paths he attempted to not only bring tourists closer to the mountains but also to secure an additional income for the then very poor native inhabitants in the region.
