On 5 April 2025, the Stubai Glacier will be the venue for a new, spectacular skiing event in Tyrol: the Wilde Grube Ride, the toughest giant slalom in the world. With ten kilometres of race track, this competition is the ultimate challenge for skiers with endurance. Whether ambitious amateur athletes or experienced professionals - limits can be explored here. Registrations are accepted under www.wildegrube-ride.com .
"Epic Rides. Epic Valley." is the motto of the Wilde Grube Ride in the Stubai Valley from April 4 to 6, 2025. With ten kilometres, an altitude difference of 1,450 meters and 200 gates, the race is definitely a challenge and is one of the toughest giant slaloms in the world. All adult athletes who want to take on the demanding challenge can participate. There is attractive prize money and numerous non-cash prizes to be won. Around the unique race on Saturday, April 5th, a large supporting program will be offered in the Stubai Valley throughout the weekend.
The descent of around ten kilometres is not only very long, but also physically demanding. The start is at an altitude of 3,210 metres with a breathtaking view of the Stubai mountains. Then you have to master 1,450 meters down, which lead through the spectacular high mountain landscape of the glacier. The highlight is the legendary "Wilde Grube" downhill, which is known as the heart of the race and requires the highest technical skills, concentration and strength.
Fritz Dopfer, the former Alpine Skiing World Cup skier and World Championship silver medallist from Germany, emphasizes the high standards of the course: "I know the Stubai Valley very well, have trained here many times and am very familiar with the Wilde Grube downhill run on the Stubai Glacier. It is quite a demanding route. If you want to be among the front runners over the ten kilometres, you have to manage your strength well and shouldn't start at full power right at the beginning."
The finish of the Wilde Grube Ride is just above the Gamsgarten valley station, at 1,760 metres above sea level. There, at the end of the day, the queen and king will be crowned in the kingdom of snow on the Stubai Glacier. Participants will receive a special briefing with all the important information about the route, the procedure and the safety requirements on Friday, April 4 on site in Neustift im Stubaital.
But the Wilde Grube Ride offers more than just top sporting performance. On the entire weekend from 04 to 06 April 2025, the race will be accompanied by an extensive supporting programme. The kick-off will be an atmospheric pasta party on the village square in Neustift on Friday, where participants and spectators can get in the mood for the event with live music. The race day on Saturday will be concluded with musical highlights and a big award ceremony before the After Race Party at the Sporthotel Mutterberg. Sunday will also provide a worthy conclusion to the event weekend with musical performances.
