Stubai Glacier: superb skiing above 3,000 metres, freestyle action and event highlights

Just a 45-minute drive from Innsbruck, Stubai Glacier is Austria’s largest glacier ski area. With altitudes of up to 3,210 metres, it offers ideal conditions for snow-sure skiing until May. Following a successful start to the season, the number of open pistes and lifts continues to grow. With skiing already possible down to the Gamsgarten top station and the Stubai Zoo snowpark set to open on Friday 23 October, winter sports enthusiasts can look forward to an ever-expanding choice of varied runs, exciting events and culinary delights – all against a spectacular mountain backdrop.

Wide-open pistes, freestyle action and events
When fully operational, 36 runs catering for all ability levels and 26 modern lifts offer excellent conditions for winter sports enthusiasts – whether they are looking for a leisurely day on the slopes or a sporting challenge. Beyond the groomed pistes, Stubai Glacier also ranks among Austria’s top winter freeride destinations with its Powder Department. Freestyle fans are equally well catered for at Stubai Zoo, one of the world’s most renowned snowparks. The events calendar for the 2026/27 winter season is also packed with highlights. Kicking things off is Oktoberfest on Stubai Glacier on 24 and 25 October, combining great skiing with a traditional Bavarian festival atmosphere. At the Intersport Testival from 12 to 15 November 2026, winter sports enthusiasts can try out the latest equipment right on the glacier. On 6 March 2027, the next generation of freestyle talent will showcase their skills at the Stubai Zoo Rookie Clash in the Stubai Zoo Spring Garden. Another highlight follows on 10 April 2027 with the Stubai Wild Ride.

BIG Family – big winter fun for little ones
From BIG Family Kinderland to the Fun Slope, Stubai Glacier is ideal for families. With its wide, easy-to-navigate pistes, the Gamsgarten area offers excellent conditions for beginners making their first turns. For more experienced young skiers and teenagers, the Fun Slope, slalom course, Speed Check and snowpark provide plenty of variety. A particularly family-friendly benefit: children under ten ski for free when accompanied by a paying parent.

Culinary delights with a view
Stubai Glacier has plenty to offer on the culinary front, too. The mountain restaurants serve regional specialities and freshly prepared dishes. A particular highlight – quite literally – is the TOP OF TYROL summit viewing platform at 3,210 metres, which offers impressive views of the surrounding mountains.

Easy access, convenient travel
Its proximity to Innsbruck makes Stubai Glacier particularly easy to reach. Public transport also offers winter sports enthusiasts a convenient way to travel to the Stubai Valley and onwards to the ski area. Advance booking through the online ticket shop is quick and convenient, with the best price guaranteed.

One ski pass – four ski areas
The Stubai Ski Pass is valid from 24 October 2026 to 17 April 2027 and provides access to Stubai Glacier and the three other ski areas in the Stubai Valley. For those looking to combine winter adventures in the mountains with a taste of city life, the SKI plus CITY Pass Stubai Innsbruck is ideal. Valid from 9 October 2026 to 25 April 2027, the pass covers twelve ski areas around Innsbruck, ski bus travel and 23 cultural and leisure attractions.
