In the Stubai Valley, family-friendliness comes first. For years, the BIG Family Stubai program has ensured that families with children experience very special winter holidays. Part of the program are family-friendly accommodations, ski schools, rental shops, restaurants and the four ski areas of the valley. Together, they make the Stubai Valley a multi-award-winning and certified family ski region in Tyrol. Children under the age of ten enjoy a special advantage: when accompanied by a paying parent, they receive their ski passes free of charge and also benefit from generous discounts at ski rentals.
But the Stubai Valley has much more to offer than just skiing. The ice-skating rinks, the tobogganing facilities and the winter park in Neustift also make the eyes of young and old light up. In addition, numerous events tailored to families as well as an attractive price-performance ratio await you again this winter. All this makes a winter holiday in the Stubai Valley an unforgettable experience for the whole family.
Families who spend their skiing holiday in the Stubai Valley have the choice between smaller, cosy ski areas and Austria's largest glacier ski area, which reaches up to 3,210 metres above sea level and guarantees snow until May. They all have one thing in common: children up to the age of ten ski in the four ski areas – Stubai Glacier, Schlick 2000, Serlesbahnen in Mieders and Elferbahnen in Neustift – free of charge if one parent buys a ski pass in the same ticket category. This applies to day and multi-day tickets as well as to the new Stubai ski pass from four days, which grants access to all ski areas. In addition, many ski rental companies have adopted the ski pass pricing model and offer generous discounts: children under the age of ten often receive their ski or snowboard equipment for free or at greatly reduced prices if one parent rents equipment.
Before the ski stars of tomorrow can conquer the slopes in the Stubai Valley, they must first learn the right techniques. This is possible directly on site, as qualified ski and snowboard instructors from the Stubai snow sports schools are available. "Pizza" and "fries" - do these two terms go together with skiing? Yes. On the ski slopes of the Stubai Valley – and that's what children from the age of four are taught in the BIG Family Children's and Youth Ski Camp on the Stubai Glacier and in BIG Ron's Kinderland in the Schlick 2000 ski centre. Parents are welcome to accompany their children. The ski schools in the Stubai Valley also offer special offers such as taster courses, family lessons or private lessons at reduced prices, which make it possible to enjoy skiing and winter fun together. Two other special attractions for children are the King Serli's Kinderland, located near the Serlesbahnen, and the “Übungsland Krössbach”, which is part of the Elferbahnen. Here, the little ones can learn to ski in a protected atmosphere, which is made easier by various learning aids such as a button lift or magic carpet.
The Stubai Valley also provides a variety of winter experiences away from the ski slopes. Ice skating in particular makes children's hearts beat faster, while the older generations enjoy curling. Three well-maintained ice-rinks - the ice arena in Fulpmes, the ice-rink in Neustift and the Klaus Äuele natural ice-rink - invite you to enjoy sports. Ice skate rental and cozy refreshment stops on site round off the experience.
From the Neustift ice skating rink, families can continue seamlessly to the Neustift Winter Park, which is only 100 metres above the ice-rink. Here, children can slide on a groomed slope, bobsleigh or make their first attempts on skis. The ascent is convenient and free of charge via a 40-metre-long conveyor belt. Slide tires and bobsleighs are also provided free of charge. Depending on the snow conditions, the Neustift Winter Park is open daily from Christmas to the end of February from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Stubai Valley, one of Tyrol's largest toboggan arenas, provides a unique winter experience with ten toboggan runs over 41 kilometres, including one of the longest in Tyrol - the six-kilometre route from the Elfer to the village centre of Neustift. Nine runs have been awarded the Tyrolean Natural Toboggan Run seal of approval, and four routes are illuminated in the evening. The ascent is comfortable by mountain railway, toboggan taxi or on foot. There are several rental points available in the Stubai Valley. Whether it's speed, exercise or the convivial atmosphere that arises when you stop off at one of the huts: a toboggan ride in the Stubai Valley is simply part of it. The right toboggan tickets are available here.
For parents who want to explore the attractions of the region alone or simply enjoy time for two, the Stubai Valley has the perfect solution: loving childcare. In addition to the BIG Family children's area, the family offer includes the BIG Family Kindergarten and the spacious BIG Family children's restaurant. The little ones from the age of one are also warmly welcomed and cared for in BIG Ron's Kindernestl in the Schlick 2000 ski centre.
The Stubai Valley is also known for its numerous family events. The Ski Austria Snowpark Days will return in winter 2024/25 and will stop at the Stubai Glacier on Saturday, February 8. Freestyle fans from eight to 16 years of age can improve their tricks under the guidance of trained trainers or gain their first experience in the snow park. Fun, progress and safety are the focus here. Participation is free of charge, except for the lift ticket.
On Shrove Tuesday, March 4th, a sweet surprise awaits all hard-working ski school children at BIG Ron's carnival festival in the Schlick 2000: Big Ron invites you to celebrate the day with carnival doughnuts and drinks. Those responsible are looking forward to experiencing a colourful and cheerful carnival festival in the snow with the children and their parents.
The BIG FAMILY Park & Powder Days invite freestyle fans from the age of ten and families to action-packed experiences on the Stubai Glacier. On Park Day, Wednesday, March 5, freeski coaches will introduce participants to tricks and jumps. Olympic participant Marco Ladner provides inspiration and helpful tips. On Powder Day the following day, mountain and ski guides will take you into the open terrain. The start is at 09:30 a.m. at the Eisgrat valley station.
The "Night of Colours", which takes place eight times in winter, will be fiery and colourful. Under the motto "Colour, Light and Fire", a fascinating combination of LED performances and an impressive fire show by the artist group "Anta Agni" awaits. The program is complemented by perfectly choreographed ski demonstrations by the Stubai Ski School and breathtaking jumps by the freestyle team, which bathe the night sky in vivid colors. Additional highlights are the snow groomer show, the spectacular helicopter show and the daredevil stunts of the motocross group "Stoanbeisser", which will delight young and old.
Not only in the ski resorts, but also in the valley, the BIG Family provides a wide range of offers. BIG Family restaurants prepare delicious children's menus and fulfil the special wishes of the little guests. BIG Family Premium Homes and BIG Family partner companies are available for accommodation. These are accommodations that are specially designed for the needs of children and can be booked individually or via specially created holiday packages on the homepage of the Stubai Tirol Tourism Association . In these houses, guests also receive the BIG Family Stubai Winter Card. A card that grants children from five to 15 years of age discounts at ski schools, in the StuBay adventure pool or on the ice rinks. An unforgettable winter stay with the family in the Stubai Valley is taken care of in every respect and for every holiday budget.
