VORDERES STUBAI – SCHLICK – STARKENBURGER HÜTTE
From the gate of the Stubaital into the rugged mountain world: Now the whole splendour of the glacier valley is revealed. With a view of the mighty Serles at the beginning of the Stubai Valley, the route leads over the wooded Stollensteig, along the Ruetzbach stream to Telfes.
In this village, which is famous for its mountain run, one of the most challenging climbs of the STUBAI ULTRATRAIL K67 begins. Around 14 kilometres and 1,250 metres of altitude difference have to be mastered. On a varied underground, the route leads through the Plövener Loch to the Schlicker Boden - a plateau, which lies in the shadow of the rugged Kalkkögel mountains. From there the trail continues via Sennjoch to the Starkenburger Hütte (2,237 m).
When the weather is fine, the runners can expect an unforgettable sunrise and, if there is a good visibility, a unique mountain panorama that stretches from the Karwendelgebirge to the Zillertaler Alps and the mountains of the Gschnitztal to the glaciers around Zuckerhütl, the highest mountain in Stubai, can be seen.
However, runners should not give in to the beauty of the view for too long, as the following selective route demands full concentration again. Shortly after the huge "picture frame" - a popular photo point - the first long descent of the STUBAI ULTRATRAIL K67 begins over narrow, serpentine-like trails to the refreshment station at the Starkenburger Hütte (2,237 m). From there, the descent continues on a 1,200-metre climb to Neustifts village centre near the church.
