The end of the high-altitude hikeThe hike along the mountain trail ends after eight days in high alpine terrain. Most hikers have mixed feelings about this – pride in having conquered the trail, enjoyment of the wonderful experience and relief at having made it through the mountains in a fit and healthy condition. As with the ascent, there are two ways of making the descent.
Descent from the Innsbrucker HutVariant 1:Through the Pinnis Valley to NederFrom the Innsbrucker Hut, it takes approx. 1 hour to get to the Karalm. From here, you can either take the taxi back to the valley, or hike to Neder through the Pinnis Valley (approx. 2 hours).Variant 2:Via the Elfer lifts mountain station to NeustiftFrom the Innsbrucker Hut, it takes approx. 1 hour to get to the Karalm. From here it takes approx. 20 min to the Pinnisalm, followed by a gentle one-hour climb to the Elfer lifts mountain station. From here, the cable car will take you back to Neustift.Descent from the Starkenburger HutVariant 1:By cable car back to FulpmesFrom the Starkenburger Hut, follow the signs to the Schlick 2000 mountain station at Kreuzjoch (approx. 1.5 hours). From there, the cable car will take you back to Fulpmes.Variant 2:Descent to Neustift, Neder or FulpmesFollow the signs during the 1200 m descent to Neustift, Neder or Fulpmes. Each descent takes 2.5 hours.
