The start of the High Trail
Every journey begins with a decision. After you have decided to hike the trail and prepared your feet and muscles, there's only one thing left to do... you have to choose which direction to take!
Ascent to the Starkenburger Hut
From Fulpmes – by cable car or on foot
From Fulpmes, you can make the ascent on foot (approx. 2 hours) or take the Kreuzjoch cable car to the top. From the Kreuzjoch mountain station, you can hike the gently rising panoramic trail to the Starkenburger Hut in approx. 1 ½ to 2 hours.
From Neustift – on foot
The steepest ascent begins in Neustift (Neder), with a challenging climb of 1,200 m. The ascent takes approx. 3 hours.
Ascent to the Innsbrucker Hut
From the Karalm – by taxi
From the Neustift district of Neder, you can either make the trip through the Pinnis Valley to the Karalm on foot (takes about two hours) or by shared taxi. You can reach the Innsbrucker Hut in about 1.5 hours via a path which gradually becomes steeper as you go along.
From Neustift – by cable car
After a short trip with the Elferlift cable car from Neustift, you can hike along the panoramic trail to the Pinnisalm (approx. 1 hour), or to the Karalm by way of the Elfer Hut, which takes about 1.5 hours. From this rustic and cosy alpine inn, it takes about another 1.5 hours to get to the hut.
