Tradition meets innovation in the Stubai winter

Experience varied winter days in four ski areas and take advantage of innovations.

Once again, the Stubai Valley, just 20 minutes by car from Innsbruck, has a lot to offer over the coming winter. Thanks to the Stubai Glacier’s high altitude, which makes the snow a certainty, visitors can already make their first turns on the snow here in autumn. During the rest of the winter season, holidaymakers can round off an active day of skiing at the Schlick 2000 in Fulpmes with a cosy break in one of the rustic huts. At the Elferbahnen in Neustift, you can enjoy fast-paced tobogganing on three long, illuminated runs. And in the Serlesbahnen area in Mieders, families, friends and couples can go on idyllic winter hikes. Furthermore, the new Galtbergbahn cable car at the Schlick 2000 and the new Stubai Ski Pass take the exciting offer to a whole new level.

Anyone who knows the Stubai Valley will know that days of intensive winter sports and all forms of exercise await. In four ski areas, on cross-country ski tracks, winter hiking trails, ice skating rinks and toboggan runs, young and old, sports fans and connoisseurs, beginners and professionals alike will get their money's worth.

Four ski areas for maximum winter fun

As early as October, the Stubai Glacier starts the winter season 2023/24 and opens its slopes. And with a high altitude of 3,210 metres, it’s not just the unique view of the surrounding peaks that is impressive, the guaranteed snow right through until May is too. In 1973, exactly 50 years ago, the Stubai Glacier Lift was opened based on pioneering spirit, courage and entrepreneurial foresight, and the range of services has been successively developed ever since. As a result, there are now 26 cable cars and lifts, 35 downhill runs for every level of ability, the Stubai Zoo snow park, the TOP OF TYROL summit platform with an impressive panoramic view of 109 three-thousand-metre peaks and numerous highlights for families.

With a view of the imposing Kalkkögel mountains, visitors can work off some energy in the Schlick 2000 with skiing, snowboarding, freeriding and even cross-country skiing or paragliding. There are nine rustic huts, bars and restaurants available for rest and refreshment. The Elferbahnen in Neustift, known for their immense tobogganing fun, is where you will find some of the longest, snow-covered and illuminated toboggan runs in Tyrol. While ambitious skiers can spend their time carving on the wide pistes with a view of the Stubai and Inn Valleys, the practice area in Krößbach is recommended for beginners and returning skiers. In the children's area at the valley station of the Serlesbahnen in Mieders, the King Serli mascot is there to prepare the youngsters for skiing. There are perfectly groomed slopes at 1,600 metres. In addition, idyllic routes for winter and snowshoe hikes offer the perfect conditions for enjoying the white landscape.

New gondola lift in the Schlick 2000 provides additional comfort

The new Galtbergbahn cable car will be built in the Schlick 2000 ski area over the course of the coming winter season. This is the first modern 10-seater gondola lift in the Stubai Valley. It replaces the Galtalm T-bar lift and will in future offer holidaymakers greater comfort, as well as making life easier for ski schools and beginners. Thanks to its gearless and environmentally friendly direct drive, it will take skiers in a sustainable and innovative way from the valley station below the Fronebenalm to the mountain station above the Galtalm at 1,760 metres. A blue run, a red run and a black run will also be created with a total length of nearly four kilometres.

One ski pass - four ski areas

For a stay in the Stubai Valley of four days or more, the holiday region has developed a new pass: the Stubai Ski Pass. Regardless of which of the four Stubai mountain railways holidaymakers buy the pass from; they have access to all four ski areas - with variety galore - from December all the way through to Easter. You’ll also find guaranteed snow at over 3,000 metres, perfectly groomed slopes, an incomparable panorama and a first-class family package at the Stubai Glacier, at the Elfer and Serlesbahnen and at the Schlick 2000. The Stubai Ski Pass, which provides more flexibility on your skiing holiday, is conveniently available online from home and guarantees 100 per cent fun on the slopes every day. And by the way, children under ten travel free when accompanied by a paying parent.

Stress-free travel by train and bus straight to the Stubai Valley

The advantages of a winter holiday in the Stubai Valley start even before you arrive. Thanks to its proximity to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, the valley is easy and straightforward to get to. Its excellent transport connections make travelling there by train an ideal alternative. Arriving at Innsbruck main station, guests can be conveniently taken straight to their accommodation using the hotel transfer service or can choose to travel further to the Stubai Valley by bus and by tram. For all overnight guests, the tourism association also offers a free arrival and departure voucher. Anyone who wants extra comfort can travel on the "Nightjet into the snow". This combi-ticket not only includes the train journey with seat reservation to Innsbruck and the transfer to your accommodation in the Stubai Valley, but also a ski pass for the Stubai Glacier. All guests with a valid ski pass or in winter sports clothing can use the free valley ski bus from Schönberg to the valley stations in the ski areas.
