Sustainable, relaxed, eventful: winter in the Stubai Valley

From your arrival to the fun you’ll have on the slopes, the Stubai Valley enables an unforgettable break in the winter paradise

Whatever the time of year, the Stubai Valley inspires athletes, pleasure-seekers, nature lovers and families on all levels. When the valley transforms once again into a real winter paradise, visitors both young and old can look forward to an impressive range of activities on and off the slopes. With four resorts to choose from – Stubai Glacier, Schlick 2000, Elferbahnen and Serlesbahnen – everyone can find their perfect environment for a successful break in the snow. Its proximity to Tyrol’s capital city of Innsbruck means guests not only benefit from its easy accessibility and well-developed public transport network, they also have the unique opportunity to combine their skiing holiday with a city break.

Travel stress-free by train and bus directly into the Stubai Valley

The advantages of a winter holiday in the Stubai Valley actually start on your journey there. Thanks to its proximity to Tyrol’s capital city, Innsbruck – just a 20-minute drive away – the valley is easy and convenient to get to. With excellent transport links, arriving by train is also a great alternative way to travel. Arriving at Innsbruck main railway station, guests can use the hotel transfer service and be taken straight to their accommodation or they can travel by bus or tram further into the Stubai Valley. For all overnight guests, the tourism association also offers a free arrival and departure voucher from Innsbruck to the valley and back, which can be redeemed for one-time use on the ‘Stubai Bus’ or the ‘Stubaitalbahn’ railway. And if you want to make things really easy and convenient for yourself, you can arrive on the ‘Nightjet to the snow’. This combination ticket not only comprises your train ride to Innsbruck with seat reservation and the transfer to your accommodation in the Stubai Valley, it also includes your ski pass for the Stubai Glacier.

Top-class skiing fun

Whether you are a beginner or a professional, on skis or on a board, on the slopes, in the snowpark or freeriding, with the four Stubai skiing resorts, each of which has their own unique character, you’ll find the right winter sports programme for you. As with the journey to get there, active visitors can easily make full use of all the resorts without the need to use a car. Because using public transport in the valley is free with a valid ski pass, making it really easy for athletes to get to the end of the valley, to the Stubai Glacier. As the largest glacier ski resort in Austria, the Stubai Glacier is impressive. 26 modern cable cars and lifts transport visitors comfortably up the fascinating Stubai mountains, where visitors can enjoy themselves on the slopes with 35 different descents to suit every ability. The Snowpark Stubai Zoo and the 13 freeride Powder Department Runs provide the perfect conditions for freestyle ski acrobats and anyone who loves deep powder. As well as the glacier, the Schlick 2000 Ski Centre is also ideal for a day out skiing: it scores points with its wide-ranging offer ranging from family-friendly slopes and challenging descents to a snowpark and speed run. The nine different chalets and inns are also the reason they call it the most social ski resort in the Stubai Valley. For any ambitious riders, the Elferbahnen in Neustift is the right place to be. Three wide, perfectly prepared slopes offer winter athletes the best terrain to make fast, wide turns. Whilst descending down the slopes here on natural snow, not only can you enjoy the sunshine but also the spectacular views over the whole valley to Innsbruck. If snow conditions permit, the long valley descent of over 1,000 metres of altitude makes for a truly special experience. Mieders, the Serlesbahnen ski resort directly at the entrance to the valley, predominantly attracts beginners and those getting back into skiing. The practice slope and button lift at the valley station are ideal for first attempts at skiing or snowboarding. Further up, you’ll find a good variety of slopes leading through the forests, and the expansion of the snowmaking facilities has also resulted in a better-quality run down into the valley.

A full and comprehensive range of winter activities

The Stubai Valley is not just a real paradise for ski and snowboard fans – the snow-covered forests and mountains of the valley are the perfect backdrop for a whole host of different activities away from the slopes too. And no matter which of the many options the guests choose to do, in the valley they can easily get from A to B because the ski buses are free – not just for ski pass holders but also for any passenger wearing winter sports gear. Many of the regional buses that connect the different villages in the valley can also be used for free if you present your Stubai guest card. Fans of cross-country skiing will find ideal conditions at all altitudes with a network of cross-country ski trails stretching over 40 kilometres with snow guaranteed. This means you can do leisurely laps on numerous trails throughout the valley or at lofty heights too. The high-altitude cross-country ski trails of the Stubai Valley Glacier and the Schlick 2000 are accompanied by breathtaking views. Another highlight for all cross-country skiers is Stubai Valley’s illuminated night-time cross-country ski trail and with its fantastic backdrop, this makes for a very special cross-country skiing experience in the evening. Exploring the snow-covered mountains of the valley on a sledge is another option for anyone who enjoys being active. Here, young and old can enjoy the variety on offer with the largest toboggan run in Tyrol. Athletes can look forward to ten runs with different levels of difficulty. The longest toboggan run in the Stubai Valley covers over six kilometres from Elfer to the village centre of Neustift. What’s more, thanks to several illuminated runs, you are also guaranteed an exciting experience tobogganing at night too. Anyone preferring to explore on foot can do so on one of the cleared and marked winter hiking trails across 80 kilometres in Neustift, Fulpmes, Mieders, Telfes and Schönberg, and enjoy the pristine and idyllic landscape at the same time. There are also numerous routes you can take on snowshoes accompanied by a local guide. These give a real insight into an authentic winter landscape.
