When the world’s best freeski athletes showcase their most impressive tricks and compete for the first World Cup points of the season, the conditions have to be perfect. For the eighth time, Stubai Glacier will deliver just that: from November 20 to 23, 2024, the FIS Freeski World Cup will take place, kicking off the season with the popular slopestyle opener. 90 athletes from 22 countries will compete in the Stubai Zoo Snowpark – including a strong Austrian team that hopes to claim victories on home soil. The thrilling final will be broadcasted live on TV.
Four days of thrilling Freeski action at the legendary Stubai Zoo Snowpark on Stubai Glacier - since 2017, the freeski elite has gathered each year at Gaiskarferner to hold their first slopestyle competition on the Pro-Line. Situated at an altitude of over 3,000 meters, the ski resort offers a top-notch setup and kicks off the season in one of the trendiest snow parks. It’s an opening no one wants to miss, as the world’s best freeskiers will be competing not only for the first World Cup points but also for valuable Olympic qualification points.
The professional organization and execution of the event in recent years, along with the highly popular Stubai Zoo Snowpark, promise another outstanding international field of participants for the 2024 FIS Freeski World Cup Stubai. The initial registration list already includes some of the world’s best. From Olympic Champions and World Champions to X-Games winners – they all want to be part of the renowned slopestyle opener at Stubai Glacier. Last year’s qualification winners, Mathilde Gremaud and Evan McEachran, were crowned champions, and both will be aiming to defend their titles this year. However, the competition will be fierce, with several athletes vying for the crown. For example, Stubai two-time winners Kelly Sildaru (EST) and Birk Ruud (NOR) will certainly be striving to reclaim their victories on Tyrolean soil and once again be crowned champions at Stubai Glacier.
For the Austrian freeski team and Ski Austria, as the event organizers, this season opener holds special significance. At their “home game”, the Austrian athletes aim to secure the first valuable World Cup points of the season. The squad, led by head coach Martin Premstaller, is stronger than ever and has a great chance of being at the forefront. The Austrian men’s team, consisting of Vorarlberg’s Julius Forer, Salzburg’s Matej Svancer and Lukas Müllauer, and Tyrol’s Hannes Rudigier, will be looking to deliver top performances at their home World Cup.
