BIG Family Stubai – the name says it all. A real paradise awaits any family that visits the Stubai valley, just a 20-minute drive from Innsbruck. Child-friendly accommodation and countless adventures in the great outdoors are the perfect welcome for visitors of any age. The choice is enormous: it can be hard to decide between the tree house trail, the mammoth playground, the nature adventure trail and much more.
The four cable railways and the valley itself offer a memorable stay for everyone. This summer, head up above 3,000 metres on the glacier to enjoy the beautiful hikes around the Schlick 2000 ski resort, set off on a voyage of discovery at the Serlesbahnen or walk along the “Sonnenzeit”, “Blütezeit” or “Steinzeit” trails on the Elfer. Young and old alike can enjoy the fantastic views, play in the water and make the most of the many discounts on offer. A new addition: the Strudlwurm Stoffl mascot, who accompanies children from the age of four on their adventures.
BIG Family Week 2023
The BIG Family Week is the perfect time for a holiday in the Stubai valley. From Monday, 24 July to Friday, 28 July, one highlight follows another here. The Serlesbahnen cable cars in Mieders kick things off on Monday with a fairytale hike. On the next day, the whole family will be thrilled by a magic show at the Schlick 2000 resort. A varied programme follows on Wednesday and Thursday, with the Punch and Judy show at the Elferbahnen and the clown show on the Stubai glacier, before a party to mark the end of the BIG Family Week at Lake Kampl adds the finishing touch. Face painting for children, theatre performances and a fire show round off the programme, all of which is free of charge.
Four cable railways – lots of fun
An adventure playground at almost 3,000 metres? That’s what awaits you on the Stubai glacier. Surrounded by a stunning panorama at the Eisgrat mountain station, younger visitors are welcomed by a mammoth measuring six metres in height, in which they can climb, slide and play. For a view as far as the Dolomites, visitors should not miss the TOP OF TYROL summit platform.
The Schlick 2000 resort has the perfect hikes for families. Take your wooden disc along to the “Scheibenweg” to enjoy a really fast race. Who will come out on top? The wooden disc rolling along the gullies at the edge of the path or the children as they race downhill through the forest from the Panoramasee to Froneben middle station? If you prefer climbing to running downhill, the Schlick 2000 tree house trail is just right for you. Seven tree houses, home to the dwarf Bardin, provide fun and action in a forest area of almost 5,000 square metres. From the treasure chamber to the kitchen, the bedroom to the music chamber, everything is included.
A few kilometres further on, at the Serlesbahnen, the new King Serli’s nature adventure trail attracts families from near and far. Here, children learn about nature and the mountain world as they play at a total of eight different stations. They have to match footprints to the right animals, feel their way through nature and walk barefoot over hill and dale. By the way: you can get your discovery pass, available from the ticket office at the valley station, stamped at each station. Collect all the stamps on your pass and you will be rewarded with King Serli’s Discoverer Box, ideal for young nature lovers.
Last but not least: the Elferbahnen. The Elfer adventure mountain offers impressive hiking options for every taste – short or long, flat or steep, for pleasure hikers or those with more serious ambitions. The “Geh-Zeiten” trails are ideal for families. On the “Sonnenzeit”, “Blütezeit” and “Steinzeit” trails, walkers of all ages can learn about units of time from the second to the year, about the cycle of the alpine flora and about geological zones.
The BIG Family Stubai Summer Card
Families can enjoy a wide range of discounts with the BIG Family Stubai Summer Card. Children under the age of 15 staying at a BIG Family Stubai Summer Club partner establishment will be given the card on check-in. It includes not only a free uphill & downhill ride on the four cable railways, admission to the “Miederer Badl” outdoor swimming pool and other discounts, but also participation in the BIG Family Stubai Summer Club – a supervised children’s programme that offers varied experiences in nature, depending on age.
