4. Ruetz and Klaus Äuele

Mountain Brook and Wet Land

The Ruetz is the lifeline of the Stubai Valley. The powerful Glamergrube, Fernaubach and Sulzaubach brooks create the torrent of Ruetz brook. The hike from Tschangelai Alm along Ruetz brook to the Mutterberg valley station is a fantastic family excursion that introduces to the power and beauty of water in an impressive way The whooshing sounds of the river, which accompanies us all along the way, changes with the grade of the slope. The highlight of the hike is of course Grawa waterfall. From the waterfall upstream Ruetz brook is confined to a narrow bed. As the brook picks up speed on its way downhill the bed is filled with white water spray.

A fantastic place for relaxing and unwinding is the Klaus Äuele recreational area, a bit further out of the valley. Because of its sandy terrain and the peacefully flowing water the area has always been used like a beach. The artificial lake Ruetz brook passes through is a dreamlike playground for the young and old. A large playground for children and the high-ropes course offer plenty of fun for a relaxing day.

Klaus Äuele:

The flat wetland of Klaus Äuele is approx. 1.7km from the hamlet of Volderau. Take a left turn directly after the bridge across Ruetz brook or 200m afterwards to get to the car park.
