Alphorn and trombone
Prof. Armin Rosin is undisputedly a pioneer of the modern trombone, which he introduced as a solo instrument in the concert halls of Europe and Asia. For him, whose career began at the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra at the age of 21 and led to professorship at the music academy in 1980 through the position of solo trombonist of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra under Sergiu Celibidache, more than 75 compositions were written. In 1974 he recorded the world's first record with trombone concerts, which to date has been followed by 25 other recordings with the almost complete oeuvre for trombone. In addition to his lively solo work, Prof. Rosin is a sought-after juror and jury president of international competitions and director of the brass ensemble Brass Akademie Stuttgart and Egerländer Alphorn-Terzett, which he founded.
As a conductor, he conducts concerts and CD recordings with major symphony, radio and chamber orchestras.
In 2004 he received the Great Cultural Prize of the Sudeten German Association.
In 2005 he was made an honorary citizen of Jeju (South Korea). In 2010 Prof. Rosin was awarded the Bavarian Nordgau Music Prize and Wenzel Stamitz Music Prize and in 2013 the Johann von Tepl Culture Prize.
