Stift Stams
Visible from a great distance, Stift Stams is located in the heart of the Upper Inn Valley, south of the river Inn. It is approximately 35 kilometres west of Innsbruck, the region’s capital.
An excursion to Stift Stams is possible at anytime thanks to its easily accessible location. By car, it is only a 30-minute journey from Innsbruck along the Inntal A12 motorway. Or, if you would prefer to use public transport, buses and trains offer a frequent service to Stams. The railway station is situated just ten minutes away from the Stift.
Monastic Life

As a monastic community we don’t live in the Middle Ages. We are people of the twenty-first century, but also as Cistercian monks heirs to an eight hundred year old tradition. The means of applying this handed down way of life to the present is our continual challenge. Like with all monks of the Benedictine order, our life adheres to “ora et labora”, to prayer and work.
Also a focus point is the celebration of worship, as fulfilled by the Eucharist, the Divine Office and the pious contemplation of the Holy Text. For us, the “opus dei” is the source and climax of all spiritual aspiration. It governs our daily routine:
