Description

Short and family-friendly hike from the Serles cable car mountain station over flat, wooded terrain along a forest path.
Construction of the Maria Waldrast monastery began near the Waldrasterjoch as early as 1407. According to legend, shepherd boys discovered an image of the Virgin Mary in a larch trunk here. As early as the 16th century, a spring was found near the monastery, which was said to have healing properties. Since 1996, you can drink the "dextrorotatory" water from the spring in front of the church from the "Marienbrunnen". Many are convinced of the healing powers of this water - people often queue up with plastic canisters to fill up the precious water and take it home.

From the Serlesbahnen mountain station (1,605m) you hike on a flat forest path for about 1 hour (2.9 km) to the Maria Waldrast monastery. (Hiking trail suitable for prams) Refreshments are available at the Koppeneck mountain inn, the Ochsenhütte snack station or at the Maria Waldrast monastery inn.
